Why do I need a Waiver of Subrogation?

Transcript

Have you been asked to provide a certificate of insurance for a job?  If so, your client may also ask for a Waiver of Subrogation. Let’s understand why a Waiver of Subrogation is important and what it means for your business.

A Waiver of Subrogation is a clause included in a certificate of insurance that prevents an insurance company from seeking restitution from a third party in the event of an accident or damage. In simpler terms, it prevents an insurance company from recovering expenses from another party.

What does this mean for vendors? If you have been asked for a Waiver of Subrogation, it means that your insurance company can’t go after your client if there’s an accident or damage while you’re working on their project. This is important because, without this document, your insurance company may try to recover funds from your client’s insurance company in the event of a claim. This policy provides additional protection for your client. Your insurance agent or broker can help you decide if you need a waiver of subrogation for your business.
